Day 1 lesson plan — vectors and one-dimensional kinematics

← Back to the hour

Intent for this meeting

After 50 minutes the student can represent 1D motion with a coordinate, write \(v = dx/dt\) and \(a = dv/dt\) for that motion, and compute simple 1D values from a given \(x(t)\) or from a graph of \(x\) vs \(t\). They are not yet asked for 2D vectors as a full plane problem or for a force diagram.

LO-1 names 2D, Newton, friction, and UCM. Those are not on this day’s confirmed topic. This plan covers only the day 1 sentence. The rest of LO-1 is not taught and finished today.

Suggested agenda

minsegmentwhat
0–5OpenWhere this day sits in U1; what is *not* today.
5–20LectureDisplacement vs position; vectors as arrows on a line; average vs instantaneous velocity; \(v = dx/dt\).
20–28Interactive (ungraded)Student states \(v\) from a short \(x(t)\) or from two points on an \(x(t)\) graph.
28–42LectureInstantaneous acceleration \(a = dv/dt\); sign of \(v\) and \(a\) on a line; one worked 1D example.
42–48Interactive (ungraded)Student interprets one sign case (slowing down while \(v > 0\)).
48–50ClosePreview D02 (2D). No homework instrument (discussion work is D04; lab is D05).

Times are a lesson-plan sketch, not a pacing note.

Graded status

Ungraded meeting. No Activity Specification. No passing bar for D01.

Standing assignments

No live standing-assignment policy is enabled for this lesson plan. Daily Video Reflection was discussed as an unconfirmed spec, but will not be applied until that policy is approved.

What this draft is not

Not a script. Not slide briefs. Not a lab. Not permission to teach friction today.
